Tinea Versicolor

Tinea Versicolor is superficial fungal infection of the  skin caused by Malassezia yeast (a fungus that normally lives on the skin)

Causes:

Caused by Malssezia fungus (normally present on the skin but can overgrow)

Risk Factors:
  • Hot and humid weather
  • Oily skin
  • Excessive sweating
  • Weakened immune system
Symptoms:
  • Light or dark patches, or reddish spots
  • Fine scaling
  • Mild or no itching (more noticeable when sweating)
  • Commonly affects: chest, back, neck, and arms
Prevention:
  • Keep the skin clean and dry
  • Avoid excessive sweating
  • Use antifungal shampoo if prone to recurrence
  • Wear loose, sweat-absorbing clothing
