Tinea Capitis

Tinea Capitis (scalp ringworm) is a fungal infection of the scalp, also known as scalp ringworm

Causes:

Caused by dermatophyte fungi (e.g., Trichophyton, Microsporum)

Spread through:
  • Direct contact
  • Sharing combs, hats, or towels
  • Infected animals (cats, dogs)
Symptoms:
  • Scaly, itchy patches
  • Hair loss (bald patches)
  • Black dots (broken hairs)
  • Redness / swelling
  • Sometimes pus-filled (kerion)
Prevention:
  • Avoid sharing personal items
  • Maintain good scalp hygiene
  • Treat infected animals
  • Practice proper hand hygiene
