Herpes Zoster

Herpes Zoster (also known as shingles) is a viral infection that causes a painful, blistering skin rash, usually appearing on only one side of the body.

Causes:
  • Caused by the Varicella-zoster virus
  • This is the same virus that causes chickenpox
  • After recovery, the virus remains “dormant” in the nerves and can reactivate when the immune system is weakened
Symptoms:
  • Pain, stinging, or a burning sensation (before the rash appears)
  • Red rash → develops into fluid-filled blisters
  • Usually affects only one side of the body (e.g., chest, back, face)
  • Mild fever and fatigue
  • Itching or skin sensitivity
Prevention:
  •  Get the Herpes Zoster vaccine
  •  Avoid contact with rashes or blisters
  • Do not share towels, clothing, or personal items
  • Maintain good personal and hand hygiene
  • Cover the rash to reduce transmission
  • Get enough rest & reduce stress
  • Seek early treatment if symptoms appear
