Eczema

Eczema (Dermatitis) is a skin disorder in which the skin’s protective barrier becomes weak, causing the skin to become dry, sensitive, and more prone to irritation or allergies.

Causes:

Eczema (Dermatitis) is not always clearly defined, but it usually involves a combination of factors:

  • Genetics – family history of eczema, asthma, or allergies
  • Overactive immune system – skin reacts too strongly to triggers
  • Environment:
    • Dry or hot weather
    • Dust, pollen
    • Harsh soaps or chemicals
  • Food allergies (e.g., milk, eggs, seafood – especially in children)
  • Stress
Symptoms:

Prevention:

Although eczema cannot be completely cured, it can be controlled:

  • Keep skin moisturized daily
  • Avoid triggers (harsh soaps, chemicals, dust)
  • Wear soft clothing like cotton (avoid rough fabrics like wool)
  • Avoid very hot showers
  • Manage stress and get enough rest
  • Identify food allergies (if related)
